TEAM S.A. - READY TO TAKE ON THE WORLD!

This weekend, three brave African warriors will get in the ring with MX gladiators from every corner of the globe.

The 2009 Red Bull Motocross of Nations will pit the fiercest motocross riders from every major MX country against each other, in an all-out dog-fight for global MX supremacy.

The three fastest riders from each country have been sent to the Franciacorta circuit in Brescia, Italy - but only one team will get to taste the spoils of victory this Sunday, and raise the Chamberlain Trophy.

Despite having produced three world MX champions (Greg Albertyn, Grant Langston and Tyla Rattray), South Africa has yet to add the Motocross of Nations title to their trophy cabinet.

South Africa’s hopes rest on the shoulders of a band of battle-hardened chargers:

MX1, Gareth Swanepoel, Kawasaki KX450F #43
For “Swanie” the past 3 years in the World Championship have been tough. Having missed large chunks of the ‘07 and ‘08 seasons due to injuries, he secured a Works Kawasaki ride for ‘09. In his come-back season, he came within a few points of winning the British MX1 championship. For his rookie MX1 season, Gareth placed 8th in the world championship and managed 6th overall in his only AMA national of ’09.

MX2, Tyla Rattray, Kawasaki KX250F #44
As ‘08 MX2 World Champion, Tyla moved to the USA in early ‘09. “Styla” started his first AMA season steadily until injury struck, forcing him to the sidelines. His return to racing last month, saw him wrap up his first AMA moto win. Tyla is excited to be racing back in Europe for the first time since winning the World Championship.

MX3, Neville Bradshaw, Honda CRF450 #45
Nev is a no-nonsense guy. He has made a name for himself in Europe, fighting for UK MX and Supercross victories. In 2009 he got rewarded for his determination and hardwork, clinching the British “Red Bull Nationals” MX2 Championship last month. In the 2008 MXoN Neville was Team SA’s strongest finisher and the gritty little guy from Johannesburg is ready to take whatever is thrown at him and get the job done for Team SA.

The teams from the USA, Italy, France and Australia are favoured to fight for the win, but our boys are quietly confident of throwing a mongrel African cat amongst the MX world’s pigeons.

If you make it to Brescia Italy for the race, come say hi to the “Boykies” and get behind the team. Otherwise, we will be posting updates from the track throughout the weekend.

Thanks for all the support!
